Microsoft, for example, pumped $10 billion into OpenAI and saw its stock value jump by $1.7 trillion. Facebook ditched its metaverse dreams and put $40 billion into AI for 2024, and their stock shot up by $1.1 trillion. It’s like AI is the new gold rush!

But here’s the thing: this AI hype feels a lot like the crypto boom we saw not too long ago. Remember when everyone was crazy about cryptocurrencies? It’s the same kind of speculative frenzy. Companies are slapping “AI” on everything, and investors are tripping over themselves to pour money into it, even though the revolutionary impact they’re promising hasn’t really shown up yet.

Don’t get me wrong, AI is amazing and has tons of potential, but we’re not there yet. Tools like ChatGPT are cool but still have a lot of flaws and cost a fortune to run. Training these AI models requires an insane amount of data and computing power. Despite all the hype about AI becoming super advanced and changing our lives, the progress has been slow and steady, not the overnight miracle some are claiming.

And here’s where it gets tricky: a lot of these AI startups are worth billions but aren’t making any money. It’s like we’re back in the dot-com bubble or the crypto craze, where valuations are sky-high without much to back them up. Some analysts believe that most of these companies might not survive once the bubble bursts.

So, while AI is definitely exciting and has loads of potential, it’s worth being a bit skeptical about the current hype. We should keep our eyes open and not get swept away by the excitement without questioning what’s real and what’s just buzz.
