AI TUTORIAL

🧠 How to Use Gemini to Summarize Web Pages in Chrome

Google has rolled out a new feature that allows Gemini AI to summarize any webpage directly in the Chrome browser. You no longer have to switch apps or copy and paste URLs. Here is how you can use it.

🚀 Step 1: Understand What the Feature Does

What it is:

  • A built-in Chrome feature that lets Gemini generate a summary of the webpage you're currently viewing.

  • You no longer need to copy-paste URLs into the Gemini app to get summaries.

What it includes:

  • Gemini will summarize only the content currently visible on the screen.

  • Content that requires scrolling will not be included in the summary.

⚠️ This is not a full-page summarizer — it’s scoped to the current view.

🛠️ Step 2: Activate Gemini's Summarize Feature in Chrome

On Chrome (Android or iOS):

  1. Open Chrome and navigate to the webpage you want summarized.

  2. Press and hold the power button on your device.

  3. A menu will appear — select "Summarize Page" above the query bar.

That’s it! Gemini will display a brief summary of the visible content.

✅ Verified: The feature appears to work across almost all websites tested.

💬 Step 3: Continue the Conversation in the Gemini App

  • Once you summarize a page, the query will be saved in your Gemini app.

  • You can open the Gemini app later to continue the conversation or ask follow-up questions.

Example:

  • Ask for more context

  • Request a deeper dive into a topic from the summary

📱 Bonus: This works on both Android and iOS, making it cross-platform friendly.

🧾 Step 4: Understand the Old vs. New Method

Before

Now

Copy URL → Open Gemini app → Paste URL

Just long-press power button → Tap "Summarize Page"

The new method saves time and effort, eliminating several manual steps.

🧪 Step 5: Use Cases and Limitations

✅ Great For:

  • Getting quick insights from news articles

  • Skimming long blog posts

  • Reviewing product pages or documentation

❌ Not Ideal For:

  • Full-page summaries (it doesn’t scroll)

  • Interactive content that only loads when you scroll or click

  • Summarizing pages behind logins or paywalls (functionality may vary)

🎯 Summary

Gemini’s Chrome integration:

  • 📄 Summarizes any visible webpage content

  • 💾 Saves the session to your Gemini app for continued use

  • 📱 Works on Android and iOS

  • 🧠 Removes the need to copy-paste into the app manually

This small but mighty update shows Google's intent to make Gemini AI more seamless and convenient in daily browsing.
